Terms of Use

Plain English, and short on purpose.

Updated 16 September 2026

1. These terms

1.1 Ratatouille (“we”, “us”, “our”) is a mobile application, and getratatouille.dev is its website.

1.2 These terms govern your use of the app, the website and the waitlist (together, the “Service”), and form the licence agreement for the app. By installing or using the app, by using the website, or by joining the waitlist, you accept them. If you do not accept them, do not use the Service.

1.3 You must be 16 or older to use the Service. If you are younger, you may use it only with the permission of a parent or guardian, who accepts these terms on your behalf.

1.4 General questions: [email protected]. Anything about these terms: [email protected].

2. Licence

2.1 We grant you a personal, limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to install and use the app on any Apple-branded product that you own or control, for your own private use, and to view the website. Other accounts associated with you may also use the app through Family Sharing or volume purchasing. Your use of the app is subject to the Usage Rules in Apple's App Store Terms of Service, and you must comply with any other third-party terms that apply when you use it, such as your mobile data provider's. The licence lasts for as long as these terms are in force.

2.2 Except where the law expressly permits it, you may not: copy, modify or create derivative works of the app; reverse engineer, decompile or disassemble it, or attempt to obtain its source code; rent, lease, lend, sell, sublicense or otherwise distribute it; remove or obscure any proprietary notice; or access the gateway behind the app by any means other than the app itself.

2.3 The Service — including the name Ratatouille, the logo, the software, the design and the text — belongs to us or to our licensors and is protected by intellectual property law. All rights not expressly granted are reserved.

3. What the Service is, and what it is not

3.1 Ratatouille records the food you have, reads shopping receipts and proposes meals. It is a planning aid for everyday cooking. It is not a dietitian, a doctor, an allergen register or a food-safety authority, and it does not know how long anything has been in your fridge unless you tell it.

3.2 Recipes, quantities, cooking times, nutritional figures and other suggestions are generated automatically, in part by AI models. They are estimates and may be wrong or incomplete. The Service does not provide medical, dietary or food-safety advice, and is no substitute for professional advice or for reading the label on a product.

3.3 You remain responsible for what you cook and what you eat. Check labels for allergens, cook food through, and throw away food that is not safe, whatever the app has suggested.

4. Subscription and payment

4.1 The app is distributed through Apple's App Store. It may offer a free trial, after which continued use requires an auto-renewing subscription.

  • 4.1.1 Unless you cancel before the trial ends, the trial converts into a paid subscription.
  • 4.1.2 A subscription renews automatically until you cancel it in your App Store account settings. Deleting the app does not cancel it.
  • 4.1.3 Apple takes the payment, holds the receipt and decides refunds under its own terms. We cannot refund a purchase on Apple's behalf.
  • 4.1.4 Prices may change. A change applies from your next renewal period, and Apple will notify you beforehand as its terms require.

5. Your content, and what you must not submit

5.1 You keep every right you have in what you put into the app — receipts, pantry entries, notes, saved recipes and preferences (“Your Content”). You grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, process and transmit Your Content, and to disclose it to the providers listed on our Privacy Policy page, for the sole purpose of operating the Service for you. That licence ends when you stop using the Service. We do not sell Your Content, publish it, or use it to advertise to you.

5.2 You are responsible for what you submit, and you agree not to submit:

  • 5.2.1 personal, sensitive and/or personal identifiable data about yourself or any other person including without limitation health information;
  • 5.2.2 confidential, commercially sensitive or otherwise protected information, anything you are under a duty or obligation to keep secret and/or any other information that you do not have right to disclose and/or share with Us;
  • 5.2.3 anything unlawful or harmful, or anything you have no right to use.

5.3 You confirm that you hold the rights needed for everything you import, upload or otherwise share with the app. Ensuring that you have the appropriate rights, licences and permissions for that content is your responsibility, as is obtaining the consent of any other person whose information appears in it.

5.4 We may refuse or stop processing any request that breaches this section. You will reimburse us for any loss, damage or third-party claim we incur because Your Content breached it.

6. Acceptable use

6.1 You agree not to: use the Service for anything other than its intended purpose; access it by automated means, or at a volume or rate that interferes with it; use it as a general-purpose AI service or to build a competing product; circumvent a limit, quota, paywall or security measure; introduce malicious code into it; test or probe its security without our written permission; or assist anyone else in doing any of these.

6.2 We apply rate limits, and we may restrict or block any device or subscription that breaches this section and/or any other section of these Terms, other applicable terms and/or Applicable Law.

7. The website and the waitlist

7.1 By providing your email address, you agree to receive marketing communications from us. We do not sell or disclose your email to third parties, apart from strictly for the performance of the stated purpose, and you may unsubscribe at any time. The website is provided for general information and may change without notice.

8. Changes to the Service, suspension and ending

8.1 The app is beta software. Features may change or be withdrawn, and interruptions, defects and periods of unavailability are to be expected.

8.2 We may change, suspend or discontinue the Service or any part of it at any time. Where a change is material, or where we withdraw the Service altogether, we will give as much notice as is reasonably possible.

8.3 We may suspend or terminate your access immediately and without notice if you breach these terms, if we reasonably suspect fraud or abuse, or if the law requires it.

8.4 You may end these terms at any time by cancelling the subscription in the App Store and deleting the app; content held only on your device is deleted with it. Sections 2.3, 5, 9, 10 and 12 survive the end of these terms.

9. No warranty

9.1 The Service is provided “as is” and “as available”. To the fullest extent permitted by law we exclude every warranty, condition and representation that is not expressly set out in these terms, including any implied term as to satisfactory quality, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy or non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free or secure, or that any suggestion it produces will be accurate, complete or suitable for you. The AI providers behind those suggestions may be slow or unavailable for reasons outside our control.

10. Limitation of liability

10.1 To the fullest extent permitted by law:

  • 10.1.1 we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential loss, or for loss of profit, business, data, goodwill or time, however caused;
  • 10.1.2 we are not liable for loss arising from your reliance on a generated suggestion, from food you prepared or ate, or from a failure to read a label or to cook food through; and
  • 10.1.3 our total liability arising out of or in connection with the Service, whether in contract, tort (including negligence) or otherwise, is limited to the amount paid for your subscription in the twelve months before the event giving rise to the claim.

10.2 Nothing in these terms excludes or limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited. If you are a consumer, your statutory rights are unaffected.

11. Changes to these terms

11.1 We may change these terms. The current version is always published at getratatouille.dev/terms with the date it came into force. Where a change materially affects you, we will give notice in the app or by email before it takes effect. If you continue to use the Service after that date you accept the new terms; if you do not accept them, stop using the Service and cancel any subscription.

12. Law, and Apple

12.1 These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and its courts have jurisdiction. If you are a consumer, you keep the protection of the mandatory law of the country where you live and may bring proceedings there.

12.2 These terms are between you and us alone. Apple is not a party to them, is not responsible for the app or its content, and has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for it. If the app fails to conform to any warranty that applies to it, you may notify Apple and Apple will refund the purchase price; to the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple has no further warranty obligation. We, not Apple, are responsible for any claim relating to the app, including product liability, any failure to meet a legal requirement, any claim under consumer protection law, and any claim that the app infringes a third party's intellectual property rights. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you.

12.3 You confirm that you are not located in a country subject to a United States Government embargo or designated by it as supporting terrorism, and that you are not named on any United States Government list of prohibited or restricted parties.

13. General

13.1 Severability. If any part of these terms is found to be unenforceable, the rest of them continue to apply.

13.2 No waiver. If we do not enforce a right under these terms, we do not give it up.

13.3 Assignment. You may not transfer your rights under these terms to anyone else. We may transfer ours to another company — if the business is sold, for example — provided your rights under these terms are not reduced.

13.4 Entire agreement. These terms and the Privacy Policy are the whole agreement between you and us about the Service, and replace anything said before them.
